VRTNWS expert on Eastern Europe, Russia and Ukraine

Jan studied partly in Leningrad

and  lived for several years in Moscow

 where, as a former BRT journalist,

he reported on the fall of the Soviet Union

and Gorbachev’s loss of power.

He still covers and interprets with great expertise

the news from Eastern Europe.

In ‘The Zuiderpershuis,

just a few steps from where

Russian Tsar Peter the Great in 1717

landed in Antwerp,

Jan will tell us more about Russia and Ukraine,

about the people, culture and political regimes,

 about the war between the two countries

and about the impact of this conflict on Europe.
